The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) was signed into law by President Obama on February 17, 2009, in an effort to jumpstart the economy, create jobs and address infrastructure needs. $85 billion in federal economic stimulus will come into California over the next two years. Of that amount, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) expects $120 million for transportation projects in the six county region (Sacramento, Sutter, Yolo, Yuba, Placer, El Dorado). Sacramento County has also received an Energy Efficiency Block Grant for a project to improve the energy efficiency of streetlights or traffic lights by converting them to induction lighting or LED’s. As part of these efforts, SACDOT selected projects that can be delivered quickly and completed in a relatively short time-frame.
