The Sacramento County Department of Transportation is dedicated to providing a safe and efficient transportation system that achieves community mobility for citizens, businesses and industry within Sacramento County.
The transportation component of the Fulton Avenue Beautification Master Plan is well underway and will help to revitalize this corridor by improving roadway facilities, utility infrastructure and streetscape aesthetics. This project will significantly enhance the Fulton Avenue corridor between Arden Way and Auburn Boulevard.
Phase One transportation projects included in the master plan have been completed. This project work included:
- Decorative street lighting at the intersection of Fulton Avenue and Marconi Avenue.
- New Street lights from Marconi Avenue north to
Auburn Boulevard.
- Installation of a 12-inch water main from Arden Way
to Auburn Boulevard.
- Installation of 58 new fire hydrants along Fulton
Avenue.
- Construction of landscaped medians at various
locations from Arden way to Auburn Boulevard.
- Construction of corner landscaping and monuments of
Fulton Avenue at the intersections of Arden Way, Marconi
Avenue and Auburn Boulevard.
- Construction of a freeway landmark and monuments on
Fulton Avenue at the intersections of Arden way, Marconi
Avenue and Auburn Boulevard.
- Construction of a freeway landmark monument at the
Fulton Avenue off-ramp from the Capital City Freeway.
- Street surface slurry sealing.
- Pavement striping.
- Installation of median landscaping and irrigation
system.
Phase Two project work is underway and includes the undergrounding of existing overhead utilities on which will improve access for pedestrians as well as aesthetically improve Fulton Avenue. This work includes
- Construction of joint trench conduit.
- Removal of utility poles from sidewalks
- Installation of utility service cabinets, vaults and
pull boxes.
- Installation of retaining walls, fences, gates, bollards
and ADA compliant ramps.
- Installation of a pedestrian traffic signal adjacent to
new Sacramento County Offices at 2700 Fulton Avenue.

The estimated contract cost for Phase Two work is $5 million. Project costs will be covered by Measures A sales tax funds (16%), Federal Transportation Equity Act funds (59%), and Fulton Avenue Improvement Association funding (25%).
