Sacramento County Bikeway Master Plan CURRENT BICYCLE MASTER PLAN ACTIVITIES Sacramento County is in the process of updating the Bicycle Master Plan. The Sacramento County Bicycle Master plan is intended to guide and influence bikeway policies, programs, and standards to make bicycling in Sacramento County more safe, comfortable, convenient, and enjoyable for all bicyclists. The ultimate goal of this effort is to increase the number of persons who bicycle to work, school, errands, and recreation in Sacramento County. The Sacramento County Draft Bicycle Master Plan is now available for your review. NEXT STEPS
HISTORY OF BICYCLE PLAN UPDATE Sacramento County adopted the 2010 Sacramento City/County Bikeway Master Plan on November 23, 1993, in an effort to coordinate and develop a bikeway system that would benefit the recreational and transportation needs of the public. In the sixteen years since the development of the 2010 plan Sacramento County has seen the incorporation of three new cities: Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, and Rancho Cordova- and an increase of total population from 1.1 million to 1.4 million. Updating the Bicycle Master Plan will provide a comprehensive view of the current state of bicycling in Sacramento County as well as provide direction for investments in bicycle projects in the future.
